A 35-year-old man working for the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) was killed yesterday after boulders and dirt fell on him as he was laying underground ducts at Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
Another worker attached to a contractor working for T&TEC was injured when the accident took place.
T&TEC said yesterday it will investigate the fatal incident involving one of its contractors.
Samuel Ownsu's body was recovered at 3.30 a.m. yesterday, nearly six hours after he and co-worker Shane Colla became trapped under five feet of dirt while they worked in a trench laying underground ducts for the state company.
The District Medical Officer pronounced Ownsu dead on site.
Emergency officials rescued Colla, who was hospitalised with a broken shoulder, T&TEC said in a statement.
On Friday night, Ownsu and Colla, both employees with Ragbir and Deonarine Contractors, were completing work at the corner of Flament Street and Wrightson Road when the accident took place.
T&TEC contacted Ownsu's family members, who were on site for the recovery effort yesterday.
