Health Safety and Environmental Networking & HSE Training

I recently had an incident where workers at my company on the night shift were engaged in horseplay. We got some video footage and were horrified to see not only the extent of the horseplay, but the fact that the main participant was the supervisor of the shift. When questioned he said he saw nothing wrong with it as the guys work hard and need to have some fun. Even after showing him the footage, which showed many instances where some of the guys could have been seriously injured or even killed due to falling. He still said he saw nothing wrong with that. By the way this guy claims to have taken a safety training course. In the end we suspended him for a week and issued warning notices to the other guys. I could really use some advice people. It's sad to know you put things in place to ensure worker safety and someone just tries to undermine your program.

Make sure you have things like "no horse play" in your SOPs. Also, send out a memo to all staff again, if you have not done so that "unsafe acts" won't be tolerated. Its good though that you all took disciplinary action. That should send a strong message that you are not tolerating it.
